Bio
Education
I received the Laurea Triennale (B.Sc Degree) and the Laurea Specialistica (M.Sc Degree) from the University of Padova, Italy, in 2005 and 2007, respectively. I received the Ph.D. in Information Engineering from the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova, Italy, in 2011. My advisors were Prof. Silvano Pupolin (University of Padova) and Prof. Georgios B. Giannakis (University of Minnesota). From January 2009 to September 2010, I was a visiting scholar at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Minnesota, USA, within the group of Prof. Georgios B. Giannakis. From January 2011 to November 2014 I was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Digital Technology Center of the University of Minnesota.
At Boston University
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Boston University, where I am also a facultu within the Division of Systems Engineering. I am an affiliate faculty with the Center for Information & Systems Engineering (CISE) and with the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS).
Awards and recognitions
I received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2020, the IEEE PES Prize Paper Award in 2021, and the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems Best Paper Award in 2023.
I was also recognized with three best paper awards from the IEEE PES. During my time at the University of Colorado Boulder, I received the Outstanding Faculty Researcher from the ECEE Department.
I received the NREL Staff Award for exceptional performance in 2018 and the NREL Chairman’s Award for exceptional performance in 2016.
Prior affiliations
Prior to joining Boston University, I was a Senior Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) from December 2014 to August 2018. My research efforts were on developing optimization and control algorithms, with particular emphasis on distributed architectures for power and energy systems. I was the Principal Investigator of a project funded by the DOE Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-e) under the program Network Optimized Distributed Energy Systems (NODES).
From August 2018 to June 2024, I was an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor within the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering (ECEE) at the University of Colorado Boulder, and an affiliate faculty of the Department of Applied Mathematics.
